Daniel traces his roots to the rural environment of eastern North Carolina, where he spent most of his time outdoors, building forts and treehouses. Inspired to pursue a career in architecture, he attended North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Design (2002) and honored with the Architecture Faculty Award for Design Achievement. Staying for a fifth year, he received his Bachelor of Architecture (2003).
Daniel began his career with the firm Frank Harmon Architect. It was at Frank Harmon's (who was a close friend and student of Harwell Hamilton Harris, a mid-century Southern California architect) studio that he began to understand how to craft a project whose details match the overall vision. Immediately after graduation, Daniel worked with Tonic Design and Construction in Raleigh, North Carolina. As an intern, he participated in the design and construction of several award-winning projects, including the Chiles Residence in Raleigh and the McCowan Residence in Durham. It was at these two offices where he learned to create building designs that become a part of their surroundings, spaces that are useful and beautiful, and projects that improve the client's quality of life.
Daniel started working at the firm Cherry Huffman (now Ratio Design) Architects in 2005. During his five-year tenure, he participated in multiple public and commercial projects, including several for the YMCA of the Triangle, the award-winning Clarence E. Lightner Public Safety Center in Raleigh, and the award-winning Urban Ministries project. He also worked to implement the office's transition to BIM software. In 2010, Daniel received his licensure from the North Carolina Board of Architecture and became a member of the American Institute of Architects.
In the same year, Daniel joined architect Dan Huffman in founding the new firm, Huffman Architects. At Huffman, he enjoyed working with a broad spectrum of clients and understanding their needs to find elegant design solutions. The small scale of this firm allowed for participation in all aspects of running the business from IT issues to marketing, all while acting as a project architect. After six years of helping to build this office, he relocated to the beautiful climate and urban setting of San Diego.
In 2016, Daniel joined LPA Design Studios San Diego office as their Design Director. In this role, he provided strategic and project focused design leadership. He led integrated design teams with a collaborative and informed design approach to find creative, thoughtful solutions in various market segments. At LPA, Daniel worked on several large-scale projects, including the University Christian Church housing masterplan, Midway USPS (The Post Adaptive Reuse), and Spectrum 3 Core and Shell. He also worked on cultural and educational projects, Including the Comic-Con Museum and Encinitas Unified School District Master plan.
After nearly two decades of working as an Architect across both coasts, Daniel is excited to grow Moskops, a boutique firm based in San Diego, and bring his love for sustainability to life in a new way. Southern California offers a unique combination of an environmentally aware community and a superb climate. These two factors alone make for projects that allow a seamless flow from interior to exterior, conserve energy, and have a neutral carbon footprint.

I had the pleasure of working with Daniel in the design project for the Comic-Con Museum. Daniel has an amazing artistic eye, exceptional taste in the materials selected, can easily communicate complicated design subjects to novices (like me), is always open to input, is a consummate professional, and acts from a place of integrity. In a nutshell, Daniel is fantastic at what he does, and I can’t wait to work with him again!
